The Slice for March 21, 2008: This Time It’s Virtual!

Mar 21st, 2008 | Filed under: Film, The Slice

We are taking a break from filming the award-winning Slice this week.  We experienced the first by-product of Sven’s burgeoning celebrity when he refused to shoot today’s episode because we ran out of "powder" for his forehead.  (The Swedish are surprisingly vain.)

But do not fret my fellow investor; we should be back next week thanks to the help of Sally’s Beauty Supply and some anti-anxiety medication.  And here is what you would have seen had we shot today.

P.S.: If you can’t imagine getting the Slice without seeing Sven’s face, here you go.  And check out this early video we did on Trading Places, if you are still jonesing.

This week, the Top investors on Cake are:

BUYING: VISA (V)

The world’s largest credit card company raised $17.9B besting AT&T’s $10.6B IPO in 2000 for the largest public offering ever.    The stock opened 35% above it’s $44 a share offering price and rose as high as $60.60 before closing at $56.50.  Life Takes Visa and so do our top investors.

BUYING: Bear Stearns (BSC)

This stock’s plummet makes me nauseous.  You can read my thoughts on the subject here.  I am saddened for the good, smart, hard-working people who will lose their jobs and retirement.  Top investors were buying the stock after the announced takeover of the company for the princely sum of $2 a share.  Now at almost $6 a share, our savvy investors made money on the overreaction.

SELLING:  MASTERCARD INC. (MA)

Top investors are selling the "other" credit card company as shares soared due to the debut of its rival.  Visa is bigger, growing more quickly, has a larger market share, and is more profitable.  It is the day after Christmas and Cake’s good investors are returning Mastercard for a better deal.

Rich Swede, Poor Swede

While not as insightful without Sven’s local commentary, Sweden is still a funny country all on its own.  But this week, RSPS brings us tragic news from the mother land  Ola Brunkert, drummer for Sven’s favorite band, ABBA, was found dead at his home in Spain.  In typical Swedish fashion, Ola’s death was not your garden variety passing.  Brunkert, who was 62, hit his head against a glass door in his dining
room, shattering the glass and cutting himself in the neck. He managed
to wrap a towel around his neck and left the house to seek help, but
collapsed in the garden.  Jag beklagar!

Lindsay Campbell is here today!  But we couldn’t shoot.  My apologies to Lindsay.  Next week!
